| Hmmm...there is a demand for stories.... Well, I am currently dying trying to finish my thesis by the end of the month, but I shall take a moment. I shall email people later, sorry. So much to do its not even funny.
Well then, um, I slaughtered 5 sheep for Tabaski, the Muslim holiday in December.
My host mother (I lived with a family for a month in the capital city) stripped me nearly naked in front of all of my 30year old or something host brothers. It was kinda awkward. All their friends were there too. By which I mean the neighbors.
I went traveling by myself for Christmas to the South of the country and went on an 80km bike ride through the mountains. If you haven't ridden since age 11, this is not a good idea. But I had fun in the villages 'cause I didn't speak any of their languages and so they just kept feeding me and giving me palm wine.
I've been dating a Senegalese man since December. His family is now my family. I love them a lot.
I did this graduate program there despite not being a graduate student. And then they went on strike for about 3 months so I didn't get to go to school for a while, despite the fact everyone else was.
Several months pass by of study and not too much interest. I ate a lot of camel and warthog, sheep and goat and god only knows what else.
I go back to the South with all the other Americans I knew, we go to a huge, highly overrated game park.
I get amoebas in the park.
I go home, feel better, and so head off to Guinea Bissau (the old Portuguese colony to the South of the country. Cannot speak a word of Portuguese) with a friend.
I come down with something and head home early.
After a week or so, my roommate saves my life when she hears me passing out and hitting the floor trying to get to bathroom. I get taken by ambulance to the hospital, where it turns out I have Amoebic Dysentery. Lovely times ensue, let your imaginations soar.
I get malaria at the same time.
Then stuff. Shall write it later. Gros bisous to all!

| Well the United States is weird. It is quite strange to be back to fancy cars, ridiculous spending and stupid people.
I still feel overwhelmed each time I go to the grocery store.
I miss Senegal. I miss Pascal and my family.
But its nice to be back for a while with this one.

| Well, um, I haven't written in a bit. I'm in Senegal.....And I don't know how often I will be writing in the is thing while I am here. Keeping in touch with people is awfully difficult, and between this, facebook, and emailing out my massive missives, something had to get cut so that I wouldn't spend so much time online. However! Updates have been going out via email, and if you would like to get on that list, let me know. I seriously want to keep in contact with people, but its hard to do it in a lot of different venues. Senegal is great, I love it, and I am so glad I am here. Its a tad warm though, and I rather want some food I like. Like milk. I miss milk. Email me! | | |
| So, I am begining to realize that I have no idea what I am doing for
the next two months. I think I may have found some people to
crash with though, which is good....
Well, I had an excellent night with Danielle, Andy, and Rob which
consisted of sitting around, chatting, watching Shaun of the Dead, and
grilling out at the new house. Good times. Ended up
crashing on the couch downstairs and not leaving until noon
today. But still, a lot of fun.
Aaaaannnddd thats about all I've got for an update. Lame, I know, but I
don't feel like writing anythings substantial, which was my inital plan.

| Well, my tuition is paid for Senegal, and I have purchased my plane tickets.
In other news, Sandra is now very, very broke.
But, I now have an international student identity card. Very snazzy, I must say.
Hmm. Physics picnic was great. I love freshly slaughtered sheep.
Did I already update on that? Maybe, but I'm too lazy to go check.
And Transformers was awesome. I know, I'm lame, but seriously, it
was much better than I thought it would be. Now I just have to
see if the last Harry Potter book lives up to it's full potential. If
someone ruins the ending for me they will find themselves in a world of
hurt and I'm not even kidding.
Oh, and just for the record, Nancy tried to strip the magenta out of
her hair, and despite her testing it first, the stuff completely
bleached her hair and now it it pure white and totally fried so she
can't redye it for a long time. I wish I could post a picture of
it...
